Having been a long time visitor to the Gift Fairs, Maree Hynes was delighted to receive a call saying she had won a trip to Martinborough, staying 5 nights in the heart of the Wine Country, including a Wine Escape tour, saying “it really made her day”.
 
Maree and Michael started the business based from home and using a mobile van with interior consulting originally the main focus of the business. Feeling Timaru was in need of a trendy place with high quality merchandise which also provided that ‘something unique’ for the home, Maree opened her retail shop, this also allowed her to source and display product, maximizing its potential and inspiring dreams. The business further progressed to include upholstering and painting of their furniture, further creating that point of difference.
 
When sourcing product, the focus is on high quality, classic pieces and great design which stand the test of time. Maree finds inspiration from current trends in interior design, such as the present craze for the chevron pattern and pieces with a Scandinavian influence. Also important is her awareness that traditionally Timaru has been more conservative, so not only the price but also the look must meet the specific market demand. Maree also keeps good stocks of key products, given certain colours and styles better suit their market.
 
Having recently doubled the size of the showroom they now accommodate more furniture and homewares such as an extensive bedding range. The retail shop also stocks beautiful giftware with a difference, this includes unusual jewellery, glassware, accessories and even clothes. Everything across their range is selected because it has something unique about it, whether it is the material it is made of or the design. 
 
Due to the strong rural base in Timaru, Maree also services the Mackenzie Country as well as Timaru itself, so travel is a must to good service for their clients. The services offered include room dressing and providing advice on dressing spaces, all of which has proved successful, especially with out of town clients where the team will brings the product to the client.Maree is supported by a great team who provide amazing customer service. Her philosophy of hiring staff means she looks for a natural friendly, happy and smiley nature, knowing full well that training can come later but you can’t train someone to be cheerful.
 
Essential to Maree’s successful business is not only a great team but also a balance of beautiful stock at the right price. When making buying decisions Maree is guided by her passion for colour and design which result in both products and service with something to suit every style and budget, ensuring no-one leaves the store empty handed, even if all they gain is inspiration!!
